PHP 7 was officially released on Dec 3, 2015. After reading about the speed benefits for WordPress and other web applications, I decided to give it a try and upgrade. I have one WP site that was particularly slow. At some times could take 20 seconds to load. After transferring to PHP 7 server I was getting load time 8-4 seconds. Though a few plugins I was using did not work with PHP 7, bu that wasn’t a big deal I can easily find other plugins that do the same thing or make one myself. Enough of me talking about let me show you how to get it.
Add the remi repo.
# wget http://rpms.famillecollet.com/enterprise/remi-release-7.rpm # rpm -Uvh remi-release-7*.rpm # yum --enablerepo=remi update remi-release
If you already have PHP install you can update it to 7 like this:
# yum --enablerepo=remi-php70 update php\*
If you don’t have PHP already install this is how you do it.
# yum --enablerepo=remi-php70 install php
This is how you install other thing you will need with PHP 7
# yum --enablerepo=remi-php70 install php-mysqlnd php-opcache php-fpm
